Riya Arora (She/Her/Hers),
Student Counsellor
Hello, my name is Riya Arora, and I am a Student Counsellor currently completing my graduate degree at the City University of Seattle. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Active Health and Rehabilitation from Simon Fraser University (SFU).
My educational journey has equipped me with a strong foundation in client rehabilitation and trauma-focused care. To ensure I stay updated with the latest qualifications in counselling, I actively engage in workshops, continuing education courses, and regularly review the latest research studies. Throughout my career, I have worked extensively with clients who have experienced trauma, dedicating myself to improving their quality of life. My experience includes volunteering as a mental health facilitator and crisis responder, roles that have deepened my understanding and empathy for those in need. I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and incorporate elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) into my practice. This client-centered, integrative approach allows me to tailor my counselling methods to the unique needs of everyone, fostering a supportive and effective therapeutic environment. My passion for helping others is the driving force behind my career in counselling. Witnessing the positive changes in my clients’ lives and knowing that I have contributed to their well-being is what motivates me each day. The opportunity to support individuals through their healing journeys is both a privilege and a responsibility that I hold dearly. In the future, I hope to contribute to the development of more accessible mental health resources and advocate for the destigmatization of mental health issues. My goal is to empower my clients to overcome their challenges and lead fulfilling lives.

Outside of counselling, I find balance and grounding through activities such as long walks on trails and yoga. These hobbies not only keep me physically active but also provide mental clarity and peace. Additionally, I love spending time at the beach, enjoying the calming effect of the ocean. I’m also a foodie who loves trying new and trending foods, always eager to explore new culinary experiences. I believe in the importance of self-care and strive to model this in my personal and professional life.
