She has worked in the mental health field for 9 years in roles such as mental health support worker and life skill facilitator. She has been working as a concurrent disorders counsellor and has 5 years experience in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. This shaped her knowledge in systemic oppression, substance use, and cultivated passion for working with individuals from all walks of life. Suki is trained in ACT, CBT, mindfulness, EMDR and roots her work in trauma informed practices. Her areas of focus include anxiety, depression, substance use, anger, self esteem, life transitions, work & career transitions, and trauma.
Suki has many years of experience in providing vocational and career counselling. She has assisted individuals looking to transition careers, explore certifications, re- enter the workforce, as well as facilitating exploration of values and belief around work. Suki has helped many people with the feeling of being “stuck” in their career and helped find meaningful work that positively impacts their wellness.
Suki has always been passionate about helping others and hearing people’s stories. Resilience of individuals is what keeps her passionate about being a clinician. Counselling was a natural fit as she knew the power that it has in helping people be more connected with themselves. Suki understands the importance of self work and the support that is necessary to reach those goals. When working with her you will notice the integrative approach she takes. A “one size fits all” approach is not the stance she takes and understands the counselling journey is unique to everyone. Rather, she ensures the foundation of the work is a safe connection rooted in transparency and non judgment. Curiosity, compassion, and empathy are key components in her work and integral in creating support for individuals. She has a laid back approach to make counselling more welcoming and comfortable. She also ensures the space is safe from a cultural lens as well as having years of knowledge in supporting members of the LGTBQIA+ community.
She utilizes different approaches to meet the needs of the client. These modalities include, ACT, CBT, somatic work, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Suki is also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP). Continued education and self work are a foundation for her work and she understands the need for a therapist to continue on in their own counselling journey as a necessary component of their job. Suki is currently pursuing training in hypnosis as an extra tool to offer clients. Her person centered approach helps create congruency in goal setting and meeting the needs of the client.
